What is Outlet ?
An Outlet is a Pipe which is connected to a tank or reservoir or cistern and main job of this pipe is to empty the storage tank or reservoir or cistern.

 

Important Formulas of Pipe and Cistern

  • Suppose a pipe can fill a cistern in x hours, then in 1 hour it will fill 1/x part of the cistern.
  • Suppose a pipe can empty a cistern in y hours, then in 1 hour it will empty 1/y part of the cistern.
  • Suppose a pipe can fill a cistern in x hours and another pipe can empty the same cistern in y hours, then on opening of both the pipes at the same time the net portion of the cistern will be filled in 1 hour is-  (here y > x)
    (1/x – 1/y)
  • Suppose a pipe can fill a cistern in x hours and another pipe can empty the same cistern in y hours, then on opening of both the pipes at the same time the net portion of the cistern will be empty in 1 hour is-  (here x > y)
    (1/y – 1/x)
